OUR MISSION

The Horsehead Lake Association is a nonprofit group of citizens dedicated to preserve and enhance the environmental and recreational quality and safety of the Horsehead Lake, Big John Brown Lake, and Little John Brown Lake.

We invite you to discover the wonders and fun of our lakes!

Our organization works for clean, fun, safe and healthy lakes for everybody by:

  • Working as stewards of the lake environment with the Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Lake and Stream Association, and the CLMP on the ongoing monitoring of our lakes’ quality, and efforts to sustain and improve lake quality and the surrounding watershed.

  • Working with the DNR continuously on planting fish in the lakes.

  • Working with Martiny Township to manage Eurasian Watermilfoil treatments, and other invasive species.

  • Provide information and education to lake residents on various water quality issues, boating safety and lake rules, and invasive species.

  • Commissioning various environmental surveys on the lake to monitor the status and potential problems on the lake.
  • Working closely with the Mecosta County Drain Commissioner in monitoring proper lake levels.

  • Purchasing and installing, with DNR approval, a number of boating markers on and near the lakes.

  • Support, assist, plan, and organize various lake events throughout the year.

    • Including: 4th of July Boat Parade, Young Anglers Fishing Contest, Annual Family Picnic, and more
    • Supporting and assisting the cleaning of many of the common areas by organizing volunteers to conduct clean-ups.
  • Issuing a regular newsletter with news and items of information of interest to Association members.

  • And much more
