OUR MISSION
The Horsehead Lake Association is a
nonprofit group of citizens dedicated to preserve and
enhance the environmental and recreational quality and safety of the Horsehead
Lake, Big John Brown Lake, and Little John Brown Lake.
We invite you to
discover the wonders and fun of our lakes!
Our organization works for
clean, fun, safe and healthy lakes for everybody by:
Working with the Department of Natural
Resources and the Michigan Lake and Stream Associations on the ongoing
monitoring of our lakes' quality.
Working with the DNR continuously on
planting fish in the lakes.
Helping to monitor gypsy moth infestation
and works with county personnel when spraying is indicated, collecting
money from lake property owners for that purpose.
Giving out information on individal gypsy
moth control measures.
Working with Martiny Township to manage
Eurasian Watermilfoil treatments.
Working with local emergency personnel for
the purchase, installation, and maintenance of fire zone signs at road
entrances.
Purchasing and installing, with DNR
approval, a number of boating markers on and near the lakes.
Commissioning various environmental surveys
on the lake to monitor the status and potential problems on the lake.
Maintaining contact with natural gas
providers regarding any plans they may have to bring service into the
lakes' area.
Issuing a quarterly newsletter with news and
items of information of interest to Association members.
Working closely with the Mecosta County
Drain Commissioner in monitoring proper lake levels.
Holding several annual events including: 4th
of July Boat Parade, Young Anglers Fishing Contest, Annual Family Picnic,
and more.
Cleaning much of the common areas by
organizing volunteers to conduct clean-ups.
